GES Announces Scholarship Winners 2024-25
GES is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2020-21 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Scholarship. GES' CSR scholarship program was established in 2007 with the goal of rewarding the outstanding academic achievements and community service displayed by children of GES employees across the company.
Each year a committee comprised of GES employees review and scores the student applications. The three highest scoring applications are awarded scholarships. Our three winners each received a $2,000 scholarship towards their tuition in the 2020-2021 academic year. Congratulations to all the scholarship winners!
Ryan Baylis
Junior l Penn State University
Ryan is embarking on his third year at Pennsylvania State University’s main campus, where he pursues a major in Biomedical Engineering complemented by a minor in Chemistry. Ryan’s dedication to community service began at the age of eight when he started donating home-grown vegetables to local food pantries. Throughout high school, he continued his service through the National Honor Society. During an AP Biology class, Ryan delved deeply into the study of cancer and its profound impact on humanity, sparking a profound interest in merging his passion for helping others with his proficiency in math and science, ideally suited for an engineering discipline. Now in his junior year at Penn State, Ryan remains committed to community service. Last year, he served as the Director of Community Involvement for the undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Society. Currently engaged in biomedical research, Ryan will also be serving as a teacher’s assistant for a first-semester chemistry course this fall. Additionally, Ryan is gaining valuable experience as a research and development intern at the AZEK Company. We extend our best wishes to Ryan for his future endeavors in advancing human well-being!
Luke DeCarlo-McCann
Junior l Oberlin College
Luke will be entering his junior year at Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Geosciences with a dual major in Anthropology and a minor in Chemistry. With aspirations to pursue a master’s degree and eventually a doctorate in Geosciences, Luke is particularly drawn to polar science, aiming to deepen his understanding of human-environment interactions in polar and sub-polar regions amidst a changing climate. Luke is actively involved on campus, serving as the Student Assistant Curator of Visual Resources and working with the Geosciences Department as a student representative and teaching assistant. Off-campus, Luke volunteers at the Firelands Archaeological Research Center, collaborating with professionals in lab work. In addition to these commitments, Luke dedicates substantial time to his independent research assistantship at Oberlin’s Quaternary Invertebrate Paleontology Lab. Luke, your dedication and contributions are commendable. We believe you have a bright future ahead, making a significant impact in your chosen field. We send our warmest regards and best wishes to Luke as he moves forward into a success future!
Noah Reichardt
Freshman l University of Maryland Baltimore County
Noah is embarking on his academic journey at the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a deep passion for physics, particularly astrophysics. He aspires to pursue a master’s degree and potentially a PhD in astrophysics, aiming to become a research scientist at NASA or the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Given his love for the outdoors, Noah is also contemplating a minor in environmental science—a decision strongly endorsed here at GES for obvious reasons! As a member of the Boy Scouts of America (Troop 456), Noah indulges his passion for outdoor activities through troop-sponsored day trips and camping adventures. Through his involvement with the Boy Scouts, he has engaged in numerous service experiences, including repairing fencing for the All Saints Convent and supporting local tree planting and trail maintenance initiatives in state parks. His leadership roles within the Scouts, from patrol leader to senior patrol leader, underscore his commitment and organizational skills. At school, Noah has been actively involved as the Rho Kappa Director of Service, a National Honor Society tutor, a programmer in the robotics club and a church service that focuses primarily on environmental activities. During his time at UMBC, he intends to continue serving vulnerable communities and promoting environmental stewardship through participation in school and community events. Congratulations once again, and may you continue to thrive—there is not limit to what you can achieve!
